Discovered in the ruins of the Temple of Ishtar and displayed in a German museum until WWII, the priceless golden Ishtar Tablet vanished in the post-WWII turmoil, only to resurface in 2003 in a Nassau County, NY safe deposit box when its owner died. Attorney Raymond J. Dowd recounts his historic landmark victory representing the museum, in which he succeeded not only in recovering the priceless 3200-year-old Assyrian artifact but also, in the case of Matter of Flamenbaum, overturning the spoils of war doctrine, reaffirming the common law rule that no one can take good title to stolen property. An East End Library Event hosted by Shelter Island Public Library.
